The goal of laser hair reduction is to cause permanent thermal damage to the hair follicle so that it will no longer produce hair. The laser targets the melanin (color) in the hair. The hair absorbs the laser light and converts it to heat, which is then transferred to the follicle. The darker the hair, the better the light absorption; therefore, the better the chances are of damaging the follicle.
Often, multiple treatments are required to reach the desired results, and many times maintenance treatments are recommended to target new hair growth. Multiple factors play a role in creating the optimal treatment, which are typically discussed during a one-on-one consultation.
